Historically speaking, what makes the last year or two historically unique?

I'll start:

-Gas prices are the highest ever (even after inflation)

-Housing Prices heading down in *many regions.

-Increased use of Cel Phones with internet & GPS capabilities.

What else will go in the history books?

  1. The present Presidential race.

What with a Female anda Multi-cultural candidate running for the Presidency, makes this a most interesting and historic election year.

  2. The first candidate of color to make a run for the White House.

  3. The marches & riots around each country as the olympic flame passed through.

Food shortages in developed countries (a first in my lifetime & I'm 40 ahem!).

The possibility of the US having either a black or female president (I'd rather she was both & came from a poor area, was self educated & had worked selling newspapers for the early part of their lives, but you can't have everything).

Except for the mobile 'phones, the others happened in the 70's.

  4. The end of America.
