Question:

What's next for Casamayor?

After dominating Katsidis (it was more one sided to me after watching a second time) he was calling out Pacquiao instead of Nate Campbell. I'd be interested to see Pac vs. Casa, but I don't know that it would generate the revenue. Personally I would prefer Pac v. Marquez III and Campbell vs. Casamayor II.

Thoughts?

  1. I think the best possible matchup for the true lightweight champion of the world, Joel Casamayor, would be to fight a rematch with the number one contender, Nate Campbell.  I think the Pacquiao fight would be good, but Pacman is going to fight David Diaz for his paper title, and after that I also hope that he gives Juan Manuel Marquez a third fight.  Then, if Pacman comes out unscathed and he wants to be the true champ at lightweight, then he can fight the winner of Casamayor vs. Campbell 2.

I also thought that Casamayor put on a great performance over a much younger and (not quite as) determined fighter in Michael Katsidis.  Casamayor started off real well, Katsidis came to take the middle rounds, but then Casamayor started to come back in the 9th round, and in the 10th, he caught Katsidis with the perfect counter left hand from his southpaw stance and that was all she wrote.  His performance, in many ways reminded me of Nate Campbell's win over Juan Diaz because Campbell was able to defeat a much younger, but not as determined fighter.  The stage is clearly set for Casamayor (true champ) and Campbell (#1 contender) to have a rematch to determine the best lightweight in the world.

  2. agreed 100% he will KO marquez

  3. Casamayor called out Pacquiao, since the he is more popular than Campbell and a fight between himself and Pacquiao would be bigger than one with Campbell.

Casamayor is still a respectable threat in the division and I think it would be wise, if Pacquiao stayed away from him for his sake. I can actually see Pacquiao wanting a fight with Casamayor, so I wouldn't be surprise, if that'd be the next thing for Casamayor.

  4. I would love to see him fight Pacquiao and think that would be the smartest fight for him to take. He has no interest in Campbell or his belt. To Casamayor and i think most fans he is the true lightweight champ and he already beat him once before hes more interested in the big money fights and that wouldnt be 1 of them. At his age he just wants a couple more mega fights before he retires and maybe make a bigger name for himself or leave a bigger mark on the sport for his legacy.
