Question:

What's nicer to live in, Dunedin or Auckland?

I'm from Dunedin and contemplating a move to Auckland. I do like the European flair, the safety, and the cool climate here in Dunedin, but I suppose Auckland with its warm climate and metropolitan character would also have its charms.

Anyone here from Auckland care to elaborate a little?

Cheers.

  1. I lived in Dunno's for alittle while but now I live in the Sth Waikato and go to Auckland every now and then......

Dunno's is the better place, alot more user friendly, laid back.

But if you want a lifestyle change ,yeah Auckland is an eye opener,  just for the experience id say give it a go.

  2. Das hängt doch ganz von Teilen deiner Regierung ab. Es kann ja sein dass man manches besser vertragen kann, speziell mit dem Klima, aber andere Sachen wollte ich nicht missen.

  3. Hey. I'm from Dunedin too. How can you say Dunedin doesn't have a warm climate? Aren't you outside in the lovely sunshine now! It's nice! Last weekend we had 3 days of 22degrees!! It was lovely! I think our chilly winters make you appreciate the summer months far more.

Anyway, I do geography and at the moment we are studying migration, particularly northward drift.

Heaps of people migrate north for warmer climate, better job opportunities etc etc. But the counterflow is huge too. People don't like the busier life style, increased conjestion, higher housing prices, higher insurance etc etc.

I'd much rather live in Dunedin.

If you are wanting to migrate northwards why not Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga etc? Somewhere warmer than Dunedin but without the stressful life style of Auckland!

  4. HI I lived in Auckland between 1984 & 1993 and I loved the place and the laid back feel and great city .

In '93 we moved to Perth W.a........great move!

BUT my hubby & I recently returned to NZ for a holiday (last yr) and were shocked at how busy, built up and hostile poeple seem to be!

we hadnt been back in 13 yrs.....

The shops esp the local ones were depressing and cheap & nasty the people driving were angry and drove like maniacs we were really shocked and sad to see how the place was.

We also toured the South and Dunedin is gorgeous so was Christchurch

to be honest mate if I were you Id stay where you are the grass is NOT greener on the other Isle!!!!!!
