Seriously the normal japanese style right now is either sort of a modern rocker/grunge/techno/preppy look. Japanese fashion can pull off a lot of strange things...but only in Japan. weird little charms and stuff are popular for cell phones....infact I don't think I've seen anyone without one. Pointy shoes and boots are popular. kind of break dancing/rapper look is in and popular. Underground races.......not so much. There is a few, and there are a lot of people that have really nice cars but.....the stuff in that movie....way way full of c**p. Sorry to burst your bubble but I lived in tokyo...there's nothing really like that here. Um.......gundam stuff is always popular..no matter what. Japanese people make it sort of a habit to remember pop figures and celebs names and what they do, musicians and anyone else that is deemed as popular or on tv pretty much. The atmosphere is sort of dull and monotone almost but...it's japan's atmosphere. All high school and junior highschool kids wear school uniforms, (boys in weird black suits and girls in skirts), businessmen a plenty, all wearing suits with pointy shoes (pointy shoes are very popular...some even look like elf shoes but...whatever) mostly only college students wear whatever the heck they want....that and people on vacation. otherwise there is some sort of pattern of clothing they wear. And there you go...that's all I know about what's "popular" in Japan.

For fashion, absolutely Japan goes ahead over the US. Japanese people often make a trend in the world like "APE". For example, famous lines of Louis Vitton are often designed by Japanese designers. And they dont think T-shirt and jeans style is the coolest fashion like almost all Americans do. They have more varieties of clothes. But the people considering Japanese fashion as weird dont recognise those clothes become trend in the world 2 or 3 years after like wrinkle shirts or reversible clothes and wear those clothes without awareness. Indeed, French designers often come to Japan to get inspiration and borrow some ideas from Japanese teen fashion for their next fashion shows. That is very known in Japan.

When it comes to ipod, of course the US wins over Japan. For computers, pretty similar. For games, it is not necessary to mention, of course Japan. Other things popular? It is pretty similar to other countries. But it might be a mobile phone because as you may know the first mobile phone are invented in Japan by a Japanese man, so they are best at making it more advanced.
