It's like a gyros, but assembled differently, and spiced differently. What are the usual condiments?

  1. Actually it's mostly made with either lamb, goat or chicken...beef or turkey or a mixture of meats is less common.

The condiments used are hummus, tomato, onion, lettuce, parsley, cucumber, tahini (and a type of pickle -- pickled turnip, gherkins or cabbage).

Cardomom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cumin are common spices used in most dishes. So you may find these flavours in shawarma.

Some will it alone or with tabbouleh or fatoush (middle-eastern salads). Fantastic combination.

  2. like pitta bread or tacos, sliced up cooked meats, and spices wrapped up.

  3. I've had lots of different condiments in my shwarma's, but usually there is hummus, tahini, pickles, or vegetables.

  4. it is middle eastern  food...it is the original pita sandwich...

the meat is often seasoned then roasted for hours..then the  hummus (garbanzo - large white beans - cooked then mashed up) onions  and meat is all wrapped in the pita bread.. its wrapped like a taco. it can be made with chicken or beef.. the beef is the most popular...sometimes the hummus is excluded but they are good....

yes it is Similar to gyros - except gyros contain 3 different types of meat and the shwrama is usally beef or chicken...the meat is seasoned and cooked the same way just wraped in pita with hummus
