What's so bad about the name Ruby?

Ruby was my grandmother's name, I think it's beautiful and it's very special to me. I know it's old-fashioned, and I'm not saying that everyone should love the same names, but from what I've observed on here, a lot of people don't like the name. Someone tell me: what's so bad about it?

  1. Personally, I love the name Ruby and don't think theres anything wrong with it. Ruby is pretty and unique and unusual, and in your case, holds significant family value.

  2. I love the name, and my great grandmother also was named Ruby.  I think it is very classy, she was a very neat lady, and I would not hesitate to name a daughter after her.....if I knew how to make girls!

  3. I like it. It's old fashioned and unique. And the fact that it means something to you makes it that much more beautiful.

    Good luck!

  4. I think its pretty,

maybe because some people referr to pimples are "Rubies" which is dumb.

  5. Ruby is a cute name. Maybe people think it sounds old fashion because it has been out for a long time. You could change the spelling and make it look more modern if it bothers you-Rubie maybe. The name Ruby looks and sounds great just like it is to me. If you like the name and you are wanting to use it in memory of someone then don't worry about pleasing anyone else. I don't think it is a name children will tease your child of. I think Ruby would be a perfect name for your daughter.

  6. I don't see a thing wrong with it.  It's not my cup of tea, but there isn't anything wrong with the name.  I suppose some people wouldn't like it because it does sound old to bestow upon a child, but then again, it would depend on what you paired it with and if you were using it as a first or middle name on a child.

If you like the name, use it. People like different names for different reasons, as well as dislike them.  In the end it's your opinions of the name and reasons for using it that really matter, not what other people think.  Just remember that with any name you use be sure it can't be made fun of by other kids or that it isn't associated with someone of the same name in a negative way so people don't get a negative impression.   It would be like naming a kid Jeffery. I hear that name now and I instantly think "Jeffery Dohmer" the psycho killer!

  7. There's nothing "bad" about it. It just sounds like it would fit a lady who was 85.

  16. I like the name Ruby, it's very pretty and has a unique feeling to it.  I like the name Ruby as a first name with a middle name that goes really well with it, and I also like the combination Abigail (sp. Abigayle, Abygail, Abigal, Abygayle, etc.) Ruby.  I don't know why, but I do.

  17. Do da name Ruby Begonia sound familiar?
