What's so great about the Palms?

I don't get why MTV, VH1, and E! make the Palms out to be so glamorous (Hogan Knows Best, Life of Ryan, Sunset Tan, The Girls Next Door, etc..). It's not even on the strip or on Las Vegas Blvd. It's separated from all the action, along with the Rio. It's also surrounded by dirt, pawn shops, and bad strip clubs.

I've been there a few times. It's dirty, there are no playboy bunnies walking around..it's just filled with older men gambling.

I don't know, I just don't get it.

Well, I do like some of the clubs like GhostBar & such...but I'll prob pass on them this time around. To many other newer & "IT" places.

And the Fantasy Suites @ the new tower are unreal!!!! -From what I see.

But yes, I agree the place is a bit over hyped and played out IMPO

I really haven't seen any of the big celebs there (although I have @ other places so....go figure)

The part of the Palms people admire is not the casino but the upper floors where there are fantasty suites, suites with pools hanging on the sky, a night club on top of the building, etc.  The casino is clean but small.

Those other areas are not by the Palms.  Across the street is Gold Coast, a local favorite casino with bowling.  Across the street from that is Rio, a huge Strip style casino that is fantastic.

Perhaps the cabby took you for a round about ride.  But Palms is not on the Strip but you could walk to it if you wanted.

The reason Palms gets so much press is because they flat-out pay for it,  they give huge discounts and freebies to MTV to use their space to film stuff like Real World, VMAs, etc.

As you noticed, in real life it's not that glamorous.  It's not full of celebrities at all, it's full of middle-aged locals playing video poker, girls who watch a lot of reality TV and think they are going to see "famous people" there, and sleazy guys who think that they will be offered s*x with a Playboy model if they go there.  It's pretty disappointing.

The owners (Maloof Brothers) have done a great job of putting the hotel name out there as a "must-see" while in vegas. They invite celebrities to stay there for free, give them expensive gifts on their bdays, and just shower them so that then they pass the word or the media finds out and us rgular folk will want to go there to see celebs. I have seen celebrities there but the biggest was 50 cent (lol). It's extremely popular with athletes due to there large beds (largest in vegas last I heard).  

The Ghost Bar is a nice place though so it's worth checking out the Palms just for that. But I'd rather stay at the strip. No need to jump on a vehicle to just hang out.

Yeah I'm not a fan either, it's overrated. My fave place is the Hard Rock, it is off the Strip but it's worth it.

Basically the palms caters to the 21-30 age who love the phony party vibes and hollywood BS.

Well In My opinion  The palms Is a great casino and You can have A lot of fun but You have to have a grip of money,I think people make a big deal of it because of the playboy club and they do have some beautifull suites:)

i dont get it either. i think it gets a lot of hype from TV like you said and so it's known for being like a "young hollywood" hip type of place with crazy suites and night clubs. and plus the maloof brothers who own it are very in with the young hollywood so that might have to do with it as well.

when i was in vegas i didn't go because my friend and i didnt feel like paying for the cab ride off the strip, and i dont know how the girl who answered above can say that it's a really great casino because she just posted a question in which she stated she was only 17 years old.. strange.

yeah the palms is just catered to the young crowd like paris, britney and Lohan, its like the place to been seen plus they have some good concerts.. My favorite hotel right now is the wynn..
