  1. Oh my..........a DANCE??????????

    You are a p1ss taker aren't you?????????

  2. It doesn't worry Australia, not in the least ! Although as they use it as a prep to try to build an advantage, it could be argued as an ergogenic aid ! Other countries should be allowed to perform their own, we could do an Aboriginal dance haha...Really they should be made to respect the host Nation. Others should just turn their back to it ! In Rugby League the Australian team faced them down during the Haka by marching straight up to them, standing inches apart ! That was AMAZING !

  3. personally i believe the all blacks, and kiwis in general are diluded.world rugby does not revolve around them and the haka is for wankas.GO THE BOKS!

  4. It's more just good manners than intimidation.

Haka were performed on the battlefield (at home and abroad) to let the other side know that you were ready and coming for them.  Integral part of the rules of engagement, polite and courteous.

We extend the same courtesy when we play rugby.

To not allow us to extend that courtesy would seem rude.

As far as I know, Wales are the only nation that have tried to de-value our tradition of haka - didn't help their cause, they were well and truely spanked on the pitch for their trouble.

Edit: Yeah nice one BartP, you're all class mate !

  5. Hey, Carlie Says, pray tell, what position did those two sisters play?

    Hooker?

  6. Its called the Haka. A traditional Maori war dance. All the South Sea Islanders have one. Fiji, Tonga, Samoa etc

Its issuing a challenge to the opposing team

  7. First off it isn't a dance it's a haka, a challenge set down before a match/war. Whether the opposing team wants to except it or not is entirely up to them.  Secondly the All Blacks do it because it's apart of Maori history which makes it apart of New Zealand. Here in NZ, rugby is apart of everyday life so the haka is serious business EVERYONE knows it off by heart!  SO BRO GET USE TO IT! ;)

    Chur..

  8. Its called the Hakka, the Moeri dance of challenge before they went into battle. It's just a tradition, many teams have them, it's just the All Blacks choose to challange their opponents with to battle.

  9. The Haka is a Polynesian thing, before each ceremonial or big event all the islands have a type of Haka dance. It is a friendly War Dance to greet great warriors (which covers most leaders, kings, queens, etc.)

To snub it, turn your back, ignore or walk away is one of the greatest insults to them.

Also only Males are allowed to do this dance, the Females have there own style of greeting.

  10. they are the greatest rugby team on the planet

  11. I was just talking about this yesterday when Samoa got to do a little dance in front of South Africa - we all want a dance too!

Actually, there is apparently a traditional Zulu dance that the South African team has done in the changing rooms for decades and Jake White is campaigning for the team to be allowed to do it Haka-style. Either every team should get to do it, or none should...

  12. It is called the Hakka and the are one of several rugby playing nations that perform one before a match. It is part of a mauri war dance, designed to intimidate the enemy.

  13. I don't know...if there are religious overtones (ie worshipping the hairy man in the sky) it has no place in rugby...(but most anthems have religious overtones..so who am I kidding)..

They at the very least should be made to perform it before the anthems away from home..and respect the traditions of the home team (where the home anthems are played last)..

Away from home - the home team must be allowed to respond..

  14. One Word...

    Tradition...

And Man... It's Haka and Maori....

  15. Yeah, I've always wondered that.  If we're going to bang on about 'tradition' then let's get the England team performing a Morris dance!

  16. Hi

  17. all the pacific nations do a haka.

    Fiji

    Samoa

why are you picking on the all black?

  18. They are the greatest rugby team in the world and it's tradition since 1884 that the All Blacks perform what is called the Haka (more specifically the Ka Mate [pronounced KAR-MAR-TEH]) just before every match. The dance is previously used by tribes to intimidate enemies, and now it's tradition for them to do it on the pitch. People look forward to seeing the All Blacks perform it. But in Nov 2006, at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, the All Blacks performed the haka in the dressing rooms prior to the match instead of immediately before kick-off. The Welsh Rugby Union wanted Wales to sing their national anthem after the All Blacks had performed the haka. The All Blacks disagreed with this request and hence performed the haka in their dressing room instead.

  19. You get up and tell them to stop - I'm right behind you ..... way way way back behind you :-)

    lol

  20. Jacki G - a little dance??

get your facts right and read what people have said. its part of NZ culture and tradition. and why have a dig at the kiwis?

tonga and samoa also perform types of 'haka'

i would love to see the SA's perfrom some zulu war dance haha

  21. to make the oppisition scared!

  22. Because they think that it intimidates the opposition. Personally I've seen scarier girl guides.

It certainly won't bother the Scots when we give THEM a fright at Murryfield.

  23. Because they are like the greatest rugby team in the world, and they are all so big and scary that I don't think anyone would be brave enough to tell them not to?

    x*x

  24. As others have pointed out, it is tradition and it is allowed to be carried out through respect.

More to the point, why let it bother you so much?

Yet again Bart P you live up to why the team of Sptting Image wrote the song "I've never met a nice South African".

Before the thumbs down, I lived for a year with 2 SA sisters and they were lovely.
