  1. Are you willing to try the raw stuff?  I'd say salmon is the best, in my opinion.  I used to like tuna a lot but cut back on it when I found out that it has high mercury levels.  If you're feeling adventurous, try the sea urchin.

If you're not crazy about raw fish, then there is tamago, which is pretty good.  It's kind of like a japanese omelet but sweeter with some soy sauce and other stuff in it.

  2. Tuna roll, tuna tataki, and halibut sushi are all very mild sushi to try.  My favorite is a tuna/avocado roll... mmmmmmm

  3. Smoked Salmon is a good one. Tuna is nice as well.  If you like spicey try a spicey scallop.

  4. What about tuna? Tuna is good sushi to start with I think. Try tuna tataki. Try something fried like a crunchy roll or a tempura roll. Anything with shrimp is also good for beginners.

  5. i only had the california roll, even though it has crab in it, you should try it because personally i dont even taste it and i hate seafood

  6. FUTOMAKI...... tempting...try it....and you'll love it...and i mean it..

  7. A lot of people new to Sushi will like Unagi, which is a broiled freshwater eel.  If you are ready for the wonderful delight of uncooked fish go with Tuna, Salmon or Octopus.  The Octopus has the least exotic texture, but people think in their mind that Octopus is a weird food.  If you get daring and want to go all out get Uni.  It is my favorite but many people are put off by the very soft texture.  Uni is Sea Urchin Roe btw.

Sushi places also have their own special rolls that are bigger and varied.  It is always fun to just ask what the house specialty is.

  8. I'm vegetarian, so I don't order any fish rolls. I like the tempurah rolls (deep fried veggies and/or tofu), or avacado roll with cucumber and sesame seeds or asparagus and tofu or egg.  The best sushi I ever had was made by my friend's parents (who are Korean). It had portabello mushrooms, asparagus and smoked mozzarella. Sounds weird, but it was sooooo good!
