What's that disease with?

where you have that constant flim and mucus in your lungs when you're born and you have yo have that contraption that goes around your torso and it shakes you real fast to separate the mucus? And how long do you live for with this disorder. I had a friend in Elementry school who had this and I can't remember if she had a time limit
