I took this photo with my phone:

It's the skyline facing Area 51..

You see the two streaks of clear blue sky cutting through the orangy haze from the sunset like a two finger peace sign?

Anyone seen anything like this, or know what could have caused it?

  1. It is clearly exhaust from an enemy Star Cruiser that is burning a little oil.

  2. These days just about any kind of unidentified object in and around Area 51 is most likely the U.S.'s new terror weapon codenamed Project Aurora. It is a super-fast, interorbital plane that once it's launched can reach any location in the world in about eight minutes. Once there, it can launch missles to assassinate the elected leaders of countries that we want to overthrow, to murder large portions of civilian populations that are in our way, or merely appear in the skies overhead to intimidate anyone who thinks they might have the freedom to disobey the Imperial American hegemony. It is or at least should be an illegal weapon...of course, most of the U.S.'s biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons are illegal. Let's put it another way: no country interested in freedom, justice, or peace would develop such a thing.

  3. Aircraft wake?

How far are you from that base?

  4. It's called a cloud.  They're fairly normal.  I wouldn't be worried about the alien invasion yet.

  5. Well, that's certainly better than a one finger peace sign.

Could be any number of things, contrails, shadows, photo artifacts.

But not aliens, sorry.  None of those at Area 51.  They're all in Denver at the moment.

  6. This is a fairly common phenomenon that often occurs in mountainous regions during sunrise or sunset.  A portion of the sunlight during the sunset you photographed was being blocked by two peaks, which caused the 'streaks' you saw in the clouds.

  7. wow...never seen anything like that before (at least not here where I am)! That looks cool though!

  8. Possibly they are from the reverse egineered cloud-breaking alien technology that NASA and the Departmen of Defense have been tinkering with for over 60 years since the 'cloud-breakers of "Omicron Ceti V' were shot down and detained in Roswell. Luke Skywalker when disguised as a bounty hunter in Jabba's palace, carried a thermal detonator, that when used above ground can cause the kind of cloud patterns  you have doucmented.

Also: a common software package known as Photoshop can cause a similar effect.

    A tin foil hat:

is a good defense against cloud splitting phenomenon.
