There's a type of airplane from around WW2 with... this is hard to explain... double wings on each side with a wing on top of another wing and the top wing is connected to the bottom wing with support beams. I've seen videos where these airplanes have somebody walking on the wing. It has a propeller on the front, on the "nose" of the airplane.

  1. its called Bi-plane,because of the two wings, not quadruple.

  2. They are called bi-planes.

Famous biplanes include the Sopwith Camel, Avro Tutor, Antonov An-2, Beechcraft Staggerwing, Boeing Stearman, Bristol Bulldog, Curtiss JN-4, de Havilland Tiger Moth, Fairey Swordfish, Hawker Hart, Pitts Special and the Wright Flyer. The Stearman is particularly associated with stunt flying with wing-walkers. Famous sesquiplanes include the Nieuport 17 and Albatros D.III.

  3. It's called a bi-plane.  They used them a lot in WW1, too.

  4. What appears to be four separate wings (two on each side of the airplane) is actually two complete wings that mount one  above and one below the fuselage, therefore, the airplane you are asking about is called a bi-plane (Two wing) aircraft.

Bi-planes were pretty much the standard aircraft design from the Wright Brothers to military fighters of WW1, and were used as training and utility aircraft well into the early years of WWII.  Some common training bi-planes in the USA are the Curtis JN-1 Jenny, several versions of Waco, Fleet, Travel-Air and of course, probably the most famous American trainer, the Stearman.

Several of these bi-plane trainers could have been used  during the 1920's and 1930's by people called "Barnstormers", who would fly across the country, landing in farmers' fields near cities and towns... Selling airplane rides and presenting aerial demonstrations that included aerobatics and wing walkers.

  5. Most 'old-time' planes were bi-planes ('double wings' as you say), so I don't know which one you mean. Famous biplanes include the Sopwith Camel, Avro Tutor, Antonov An-2, Beechcraft Staggerwing, Boeing Stearman, Bristol Bulldog, Curtiss JN-4, de Havilland Tiger Moth, Fairey Swordfish, Hawker Hart, Pitts Special.
