What's that unwritten rule about how any person that plays hockey should never lift the cup?

Does it goes as far that said person shouldn't even touch it?

Yes. They myth is that if you ever want to win the cup, you should never touch it until you win.

For those of us with no chance of winning it it's not an issue. NHL players though? they believe it.

Jeff got it. But as someone that plays I still honored it and did not touch the cup when I had my picture taken with it.
