I recommend "Bar Italia" on College Street - the food is wonderful and you have a choice of casual (downstairs) or a little more formal with music (upstairs).  Their website is www.bar-italia.com

Also try Matignon on Nicholas Street near Yonge and Charles.  Great little French restaurant - great French owner makes everyone at home and the food is fabulous without spending alot of money.
