What's the Irish equivalent of Justice of the Peace?

I have to get some documents certified and am in Galway - where would be best to go?

  1. Peace commissioner , that could be a solicitor, a Doctor, a priest etc., if you know some local people ask them they should be able to direct you to someone , try to stay away from a Solicitor as they will charge you where as the rest will should do it for free


  2. No they are called Peace Commissioners

    Solicitors and persons employed in their offices and members of the clergy are, as a matter of practice, not appointed as Peace Commissioners because of the possibility of a conflict of interest.

    Your local Garda (police) station should be able to give you the name and address of a Peace Commissioner in your area.

    In galway city the garda (police station) is in mill street 091 - 538000

  5. A justice of the peace is the same in Ireland.  

    You can also have a solicitor certify documents.  Just ring a solicitor's office and make an appointment.  You will probably have to pay a small fee.

  6. Hiya  They are called Peace commissioners.  They can be anyone in the community....  Probably ask the local guard station as they use them (I think for signing warrants etc)
