What's the Peace Corps like?

I'm interested in joining after college or something.

I'm just wondering what it's like, what sort of credentials you need, etc.

Please only answer if you've actually participated in the Peace Corps.

Thanks.

  1. I was a PCV 37 years ago. My daughter is one now. I've written pages about what it is like, starting on

You need to be willing to live without a lot of fancy stuff and to have a skill a host country has asked for. 92% of all volunteers have college degrees. The rest have 10 - 50 years of experience. If you are an engineer, you have it waxed. If not, take a course or two in TESL while you can.

  2. Please go to the PeaceCorps web site and read for yourself what background and "credentials" you need. And use Google to find PeaceCorps blogs written by members in the field -- there are hundreds of them and they are easy to find.
