Question:

What's the SIMPLEST free photo editing software?

My father (65) has recently got into digital photography, and would like to edit some of his photos on his computer.

He doesn't want to pay for photo editing software, and he'd be scared by anything complicated. If it can crop and fix red-eye, that would be great. If it lets him fiddle with brightness/contrast in quite a basic way, or make his photos black and white, that would be even better, but that's as far as he'll go.

If it has massive menus with bewildering options, he just won't use it. He doesn't want to work with layers, or apply complex filters, or convert from RAW (his point-n-shoot just takes jpegs), or any of that. Just make his snapshots look a bit better, not create works of art.

What do you recommend?

    2. Paint.Net

    Short Description:

Paint.NET includes simple tools for drawing shapes, including an easy-to-use curve tool for drawing splines or Bezier curves. The Gradient tool, new for 3.0, has been cited as an innovative improvement over similar tools provided by other software. The facilities for creating and working with selections is powerful, yet still simple enough to be picked up quickly. Other powerful tools include the Magic Wand for selecting regions of similar color, and the Clone Stamp for copying or erasing portions of an image. There is also a simple text editor, a tool for zooming, and a Recolor tool.
