Question:

What's the Safest "Way to His Heart" Menu?

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach, right? I want to cook a gourmet meal (I cook pretty well) and invite my man over - for the impression factor, of course. But what's the safest, least time-consuming menu? I want something not too filling but satisfying, won't give us gas or cramps (ewww), not so heavy or greasy that it'll make us sleepy (right away). All menu and beverage suggestions welcomed. I want to get this setup in time for Memorial Day.

  1. Try a tiramisu dessert. It's light so even if you've had something heavy, it will not give you a bloated feeling. Also, on the drinks side, I personally love bellinis, but not too much, they do give a killer headache!

  2. Crab cakes topped with aioli on shredded cabbage with champagne vinegar dressing,  Followed by Chicken cacciatore on mashed potatoes with truffle oil and green beans with almonds.

Flourless chocolate cake for dessert with a cappuchinno cream.

  4. What about lasagna, fresh mozzarella and tomato salad with fresh basil, followed by angel food cake with fresh berries and a hazelnut cream? Wine to drink. Or fresh squeezed lemonade.....you can always add a little vodka!

  5. You definitely don't want to be fooling in the kitchen when he's there..and these recipes are done ahead, so you can even have the kitchen all cleaned up!

Appetizer:  just set out a softened 8-oz pkg of cream cheese, and put a small jar of cheap caviar over the top..with crackers

    BONELESS PORK LOIN

    2-4 boned, rolled pork roast

    1 Tb. dry mustard

    1 tsp. salt

    pepper & paprika to taste

    1/2 tsp. caraway seed

Rub roast with seasonings.  Roast on rack in shallow pan, uncovered, at 350 for 45-50 min per pound (thermometer should reach 185).  Slice thin.  This can be done ahead and also served cold, or room temp

Double-baked potatoes:  Bake 2 big potatoes until soft.  Scoop out the insides, and mash them with butter, cheese, salt, pepper (and whatever else you like).  Stuff that back into the potato shells; dot with butter & sprinkle with paprika.  Refrigerate until you reheat at 350 for about 1/2 hour....

Green salad with balsamic vignarette dressing (used bagged baby mixed salad greens)  ...... can garnish with drained mandarin oranges

    SUPER FUDGE PIE

    1/2 c. butter

    2 sq. unsweetened chocolate

    2 eggs

    1 c. sugar

    1/4 c. flour

    pinch of salt

ice cream or whipped cream to top

Melt butter & chocolate together.  Beat eggs in bowl, and gradually add sugar.  Add flour & salt; then combine with the chocolate mixture.  Pour into an ungreased 8" piepan and bake at 350 for 20-25 min.  Cool and freeze.  This does not need to be thawed out to eat.  Top with ice cream or whipped cream (and maybe some chocolate-covered strawberries)

A nice red wine would go well with this......
