What's the Standard of Living in Japan like?

I'm aware that Japan has a very high GDP per capita, is a very developed nation and has a relatively low crime rate, but how is Standard of Living overall for the average Japanese person? Although the average wage is high in Japan, the cost of living is also quite high, how does this effect people? Also, considering the high population density of Japan, there isn't a huge amount of open countryside, and a lot of Japan is urban - does this effect peoples Quality of Life much, as even the richer people in Japan have fairly small homes due to the land area available, I get the impression not many people have big houses in Japan. Also, how do most Japanese feel about life in Japan? Are most satisfied with their Standard of Living? Do most Japanese people intend to live in Japan permanently, or is many who consider immigrating to other countries? Also, is it true that the often strict social conventions of Japan and group mentality of the Japanese sometimes make social life stressful?

Thanks

  1. This kind of question is absolutely meaningless. Like anywhere else, Japanese in Japan has been living their variety of every life. Rich to poor, High to low as same as your country.

Standard of living is just image but not existing actually. The society is very complicated. Average is not equal to real thing at all.

They complain they have taken mental stress but I know they never go to mental clinic like any American. I even think they must be less mentally stressful than American.

  2. It's very rare to see a house or condo in Japan with swimming pool, tennis court or something like that.

It's also not so often to see a house with backyard in Tokyo although houses in rural Japan have at least some backyard.

    >Also, how do most Japanese feel about life in Japan?

Most Japanese people have never experienced life outside of Japan. So they cannot compare it.

    >Are most satisfied with their Standard of Living?

    I guess so.

    >Do most Japanese people intend to live in Japan permanently, or is many who consider immigrating to other countries?

Most Japanese people think it's impossible for them to move to another country because of language and financial problem. So they intend to keep living in Japan. They know that they cannot live in other countries.

    >Also, is it true that the often strict social conventions of Japan and group mentality of the Japanese sometimes make social life stressful?

Yes. Maybe, that's why suicide rate in Japan is high.
