  1. I'm there with the Seeker. Combination of two. No third.

  2. I believe there are more than three genders. Everybody has got male and female traits of character, feeling and behavior from birth. And everybody may be placed somewhere on a long scale between 100% feminine and 100% masculine. In some respects you will be qualified more feminine, in others more masculine. The resultant valuation of all aspects gives your gender identification. And there are many different gender identifications.

Apart from that mostly androgynous people have been described as "third gender". There have been waves when androgynity was en vogue, like in the 20s of the last century (>the garconne type of women) or in the flower power generation of the 70s. Reports say that androgynity, especialy feminine young men, is a strong tendency in the present Japanese society. Generally these tendencies are more frequent in modern Western civilizations because gender roles are questioned.

  3. I'm gonna get a dramatic load of thumbs down for this, but regardless to popular belief, this is what makes logical sense to me.

There is no third gender any more than there is a third liquid when you mix water with Pepsi. There are only two genders, male and female. Anything else is nothing more than a combination of the two, not some sort of brand new gender. That would be exactly the same as mixing water with Pepsi and getting orange juice. That would actually be a third drink, but that's not how it works scientifically, so no, there is no third gender.

Eric - There's actually not a lot of info on that yet because it's still a topic that's being figured out by psychologists, etc. Usually the info out there about this says there is a third gender, but the info is never truly scientific and undeniable fact. It's always info based on a belief system. It's more of a PC term for post-op transgenders and androgynous (gender q***r) people than a scientific fact. Info on sexuality and gender is still not yet matured and scientifically solved, and has many, many loop holes.

EDIT: One popular belief on the topic is that the third gender is neither male or female. Thats exactly like saying that after you mix water and Pepsi, the new drink is neither water or Pepsi. That sounds nice for those who want to indentify as different than water or Pepsi, but in all actuality, it's still a mixure of the two, not orange juice. Or in this case, they're still a mixture of male and female, not a new breed of humanoid entity. If they were, yes scientifically that would be a new gender.

  4. Hermaphrodites, perhaps?

  5. Post-op Transsexuals are generally regarded as the Third Gender

  6. I think that biologically there are a very few people whose cells are mixed up XX and XY so they could be a third gender. I can't remember what this type of mosaic is called.

HOWEVER most people who are referred to as a 'third' gender are actually males with some sort of genetic or sociological abnormality.  Most appear to be inborn. Some of it is inability to use the androgens that 'wash' over an infant to make it male.
