  1. We are doing our best to broker a permanent peace treaty between the warring parties.

  2. Long answer short, 43% of the worlds Jewish population are in the US, and majority of that 43% have alot of power and influence in US government.

  3. The US is not an honest mediator although I don't think they are being intentionally obstructionist or malevolent; basically, the US is conflicted:

    - it has a high percentage of the world's jewish population who have made themselves a very powerful loby group

    - the arab world has a lot of oil

    - the state of Israel is threatened by its neighbours and the US does have a feeling (albeit a little ambivalent) that their is a moral duty to protect the state as much as they felt the same towards Europe during the cold war

    - on the other hand the US is often uncomfortable with the more extreme positions and views propounded by Israel that don't sit comfortably with the general US position on UN resolutions, nuclear non-proliferation, human rights, etc.

Bottom line is that any nation that provides over $2bn/year in military aid to one side of the conflict while buying 50% of the exports of the other side of the conflict (oil) can never be a mediator - they are part of the issue (and only sometimes part of the problem).

  4. i love how americans think theyre actually helping in the situation.  but id say the us role is backing up israel which to be fair is under threat but they are also the biggest sham of a democracy ever. the arabs ae totally right in what theyre fighting for but israels there now so i think they should try and settle their differneces instead of fighting instead of attacking them. israel however has the worst record of condemnations from the un and the only reason sanctions havent been taken out against them is because the us blocks sanctions everytime.
