I loved the dessert I sampled in germany...it was schmand topped w/ blue berries, granola and honey...If you know how I could make it or if it's even sold in the USA that'd be great!

this is what the schmand container made by the Ja! comp. states:

Schmand aus Sauerrahm

Sauermilcherzeugnis

warmebehandelt

24% fett

  1. i looked up schmand in the dictionary. it translates as sour cream. but as dairy is very country specific. i think it will be very hard to find the exact same thing in the US.

my cooking dictionary lists as viable options:

    Creme Frêche

    Sour cream

i think US dairy needs to be sterilised before it can enter the country, while in germany dairy is pasteurised giving it a completely different flavour. (i always detest the taste of foreign milk)

  2. It is sour cream....you could use the mexican kind (crema or  cream espesa)) , it's thinner, also more expensive, available at Walmart.

  3. Smooth 16 ounces of Cottage Cheese in a blender, then add one 8 ounce package of Cream Cheese and blend well.

    This is a close approximation.

Another choice would be probably sour cream that is thinned a little with buttermilk.

  4. Sounds like sour cream!
