  1. When you multiply two numbers with the same base you add the exponents.  For example, z^5z^7 = z^(5+7) = z^12 and z^4z^(-2) = z^(4-2) = z^2.  In your problem,

3(2x²y³)(4xy^4) =   ...multiply the constants first.

    3*2x²y³4xy^4 =

    6*4x²y³xy^4 =   ...put the x and y terms together

    24x²xy³y^4 =

    24x^(2+1)y^(3+4) =   ...add exponents

    24x³y^7

    Hope this helps you!
