  2. Like with most areas in London there are pockets of bad parts... New Cross is not one the best areas to live in but it's not one of the worst either.  As long as you are smart (ie do not walk alone at night) you will be fine.  That advice applies to all areas of London!

  3. My son was at Goldsmiths and lived in Deptford, student lodgings and then in New Cross in a Victorian house filled with a very mixed group of young people.  He felt safe and it seems to me to be a very vibrant area.  There is a nice park (Telegraph Hill) and you are not far from Greenwich and Blackheath - open space and really nice village.  I think there are good people all over London and the media exaggerate the crime.

  4. It's not far from nice areas like Blackheath and Greenwich, however New Cross itself can be a bit rough and I personally would avoid it at night if I were a young man. However, if you hang with nice kids, and avoid all that nonsense you should be fine. I think the gangs for the most part leave students alone, despite the awful recent happenings.

  5. Keep away from Deptford

  6. Errr sorry but New Cross is quite a dangerous area these days, you might want to read these...

  7. Last week the burned and stabbed remains of two French students were found in a flat in New Cross.  They have not caught the person yet.  I'm sure it's quite safe but you ought to be made aware of what happened.
