What's the average age of a begginer fencer?

I was just wondering what the average age of a beginner fencer is...the sport by the way

They usually start at around age 8 or 9 and start competing at around age 12.

Fencing is different from most sports.  People can start fencing at any age and end up competing.  At my fencing club, we take students as young as six or seven years old, but there are many older beginning students as well.  I started fencing when I was 16 years old.  There are students in college who start fencing, there are even parents who join in our classes so that they can spend time with their kids.  There is no set age on when to start fencing...that's the beauty of it all.

As for the minimum age for the Olympics...I believe that it is 16 years old.  I am not positive.  However, I do know that fencers MUST be at least 14 years old to compete in a USFA (United States Fencing Association) sanctioned tournament.
