What's the average car insurance cost in Ireland?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move from Canada to Ireland next year and I was wondering what would be an average cost for a basic car insurance? I have had a valid Canadian G2 license for about 3 years, as well as a Romanian (EU) full license for 8 years. I'm 26. The car would be a small car, and the region either Dublin or Cork.

I'm not looking for an exact quote, I'd just like to know what you are paying for your car and your experience, so to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

  1. In Northern Ireland, VW Golf = approx £250. Depends on age, value of car, where car is located, years driving without accidents.

  2. Too much, we pay for the boy racers mistakes.

  3. depends on your record of accidents or non-accidents the amount of times you have/haven.'t

it would also be advisable to obtain an irish driving locence whern you get here

  4. I pay about €500 for third party insurance on my 1.3 litre car - but im a woman so you can expect to pay almost double if your male...try have a look at some websites for quotes, just google them

  5. Remember to bring your "no claims" certificate from Canada, because it could be transferable.

    I would think between €500/€1000.
