Best Minivans

Toyota Sienna XLE, 19 mpg;

Honda Odyssey EX, 19 mpg;

Worst Mini Vans

Ford Freestar SEL, 17 mpg;

Kia Sedona EX, 17 mpg;

Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, 17 mpg;

Saturn Relay 3, 17 mpg.

The averages can hurt you on this one.

I have owned 3  Chrysler minivans since 1992.

2 with the 3.3L and one with the 3.0L

The grand/stretch 3.3 is pretty poor in town where many minivans spend post of their time, as low as 14.mpg in town.  On the road it was between 23 and 27 mpg, not tooo bad.

the shorty minivan, kinda stripped-not many heavy options, with the 3.0L gets almost 18 mpg in stop and go, 28 hi way if not in  a hurry.

the newer short minivan is a 3.3  multifuel, so It runs 85% Ethanol,  not a fair comparison- but 12 mpg  in town and about 21 hi way

The government's fuel economy website lists fuel economy for all vehicles sold in the US and even back references old mileage figures to the new 2008 standard.  The new standards have been tested by the automotive press and found to be pretty accurate, most times within 1 or 2 mpg.  A vast improvement from the old numbers we all knew were meaningless...

My 2005 Honda Odyssey gets about 26 mpg highway and 17 mpg city by my own calculations.  This is exactly what the new EPA estimate says.The old figures said 28 hwy and 20 city, clearly overstated from actual.
