  1. Well, walking across the border is free :)

But from capital to capital...I think it was 2  bucks or so from Managua to the Costa Rican border in an express chicken bus,     then $6 to San Jose on a halfway decent Greyhound-type deal.  May have gone up since I was ther but probably not that much.  There is also Transnica and Tica bus, which are nicer but also more expensive- air conditioning, decent leg room, etc.

    www.ticabus.com/  costs $15-23 one way

    see also http://www.transnica.com/index_en.htm

From Rivas, Nicaragua to the border is probably a buck, and maybe a a couple bucks from the border to the provincial capital Liberia.

  2. I just came back from a concert in Costa Rica, it was on Saturday. I always take TransNica, TicaBus is always crowded and is more expensive. I prefer TransNica for the quality of the seats, more space and they always have friendly drivers. They also have reclinable seats, television and video, sanitary service, a snack on board, and cellular telephone service.

You have two ways you can head to Costa Rica, normal or executive. All buses leave in the morning from Managua - San José or San José - Managua. The buses leave at 5:30am, 7am and 10am and only cost $10, executive will run you only $10 more ($20, still cheaper than TicaBus).

There are other buss lines, such as King Quality, it is very comfortable but extremely overpriced.
