  1. For English- I would go with leapfrog letter factory and starfall.com. My son used the take home cut out books. After he read one he designed the cover. You can also get writing there or pick up a book at the dollar store.

for SS- If you let him play on the computer you can use http://www.softschools.com/social_studie... for the continents ,

Math- I would make up a game or buy spill the beans and count how many you can get on before it tips over, count stars, candy,

Science- http://abcteach.com/directory/basics/sci...  look at the free stuff

also look through here http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/mate... There are tons of free things. I would look at you local dollar store a lot of times they have DVD's and CD's for kids. Also Netflix has become a favorite of ours. Your curriculum is going to depend on the type of child you have, the style of learning you want and how much you can prepare. You may also want to look at http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Students?cur... . Read aloud a lot, play games, generally have fun, and do crafts that promote fine motor skills .

  2. holy c**p they teach continents and countires in kindergarten now? wow. that was hard to learn in idk what grade it was but it was somewhere between 4th and 7th . they shouldnt teach that to kindergarteners

  3. You can get other ideas on what to cover by checking at http://www.worldbook.com under "typical course of study" for kindergarten.  Or check out a book such as "Making the Grade:  Everything Your Kindergartner Needs to Know" or "What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know"--You can probably get them through your local library first, then see if you'd really want to purchase them.

Florida doesn't have specific requirements of homeschoolers as to what to cover in a particular grade level.  (Many children who would be in kindergarten aren't even required to "register" as homeschoolers since the law is based on age rather than grade level.  If the child will be 6 by Feb. 1st of the school year, the school district must be notified of your intent to homeschool, but if the child won't be 6 by Feb. 1st, you aren't required to have the child in an educational program yet.)

The most afforable curriculum is to use the public library a great deal.  You can throw in some comprehensive workbooks that you can find at discount stores, if you really want to use some textbooks.  And then be sure to do a lot of field trips to local places of interest, play lots of games (good for things like learning to count money, adding numbers on the dice, etc.), exploring nature in your area, playing at the park or in the yard, etc.

I read the "Little House on the Prairie" series to my little ones.  Exposed them to ideas about our history as well as to higher vocabulary (and they loved them).  We watched a lot of "Bill Nye, the Science Guy" and  "Magic School Bus" videos (from the library) for science.

  4. Do you really need a curriculum to teach all that?  I highly doubt it.  You could probably make your own curriculum that will be far more rewarding for you and your child than anything you would buy.  You know your child better than anyone else.  I think at that age it is still best for most children to go the 'unschooling' route.

  5. WRITE YOUR NAME AND TIE YOUR SHOES

LEARN ABCS NUMBERS AND READ 50 WORDS

  6. Here are the standards for Florida: http://www.fldoe.org/earlylearning/

Now that you know what the government expects of your child, you can ignore it.
