  1. You spelled arrondissement correctly. Concerning hotels, here's an answer I gave someone else concerning a similar question. Paris doesn't have any especially dangerous areas by the way- some of the suburbs north and east of the city can be dangerous, but not so much the ones neighboring Paris- I'm referring more to towns farther away, like La Courneuve, Pontoise, etc, and it's highly unlikely you'd wind up in places like that anyway. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  2. Try Première Classe or Hotel Formule 1

They cheap but are not in the centre, you'll be hard pressed to find a hotel less than 40€ a night in the centre of Paris.

However the métro in Paris is fast and reliable - so it's no hardship staying outside of the city centre. If you buy a "carte mobilis" day ticket - you'll have the freedom to ride unlimited on buses/métro/RER suburban train, in the zones you specify when you buy the ticket.

  3. Actually the center can be perfectly affordable so long as you are not looking to stay in an antiseptic Holiday Inn sort of place.

I've been staying at the same hotel in Paris for almost 35 years. Its the Hotel St. Andre Des Artes at 66 rue St. Andre des Artes in the 6th arrondissement. A double will cost as little as 86 euros a night and the price includes breakfast.

Its owned and operated by a former philosophy professor and his artist wife in a building that was constructed in 1601.

Its the best location in Paris, in the heart of the Left Bank and a short walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Cluny Museum. the area is very lively and filled with cafes, shops and the Buci street Market which has been in operation since the middle ages.

The Odeon Metro stop is just a few yards  from the front door.

Its NOT the Holiday Inn. there is no elevator, no mini bars, no TV, and the keys are big clunky medieval things rather than electronic mag cards.

But is also warm, inviting, friendly and has a clientele of seasoned international  travelers.

Trust me, if you want to really experience Paris and all its charms this is THE hotel to stay at.

The hotel can be viewed on this website: http://www.123france.com/123/en/hotel.ph...

  4. I'll suggest you hotel Ascot Opera -rue Monsigny no.2 (arr.2). It's a small one, but in a very safe area and very well located, just few steps to the main beauties of Paris, by walking. As for a metro station, in the street's corner (1 minute walking) is "4 Septembre", so you can go everywhere you want. I was many times in Paris as a single woman traveler. Bon voyage !
