i am not very tech savy. however, i do use the computer daily and go to school online. for school purposes, i save and update alot of my important lectures and schoolwork on my computer on a regular basis. most of these files are podcasts (audio lectures) and ms word files.

i want a SIMPLE and low maintenance way of backing up my files. i am considering an external hard drive. what is the best external hard drive for someone like me?

thanks

  1. I prefer Seagate hard drives.  They have never failed me.  I have a 250GB Seagate external hard drive and have used it to back up about 70GB of information (Music/Pictures/Documents) every month.

Try getting a smaller hard drive that runs fast.  They try selling 750GB hard drives and stuff, but you don't seem to need that.  When you're buying a hard drive try to get one that runs at 7200rpm.  Some run at 5400rpm and that means that it will save things slower.

There are some deals online with hard drives that can be pretty good, but look around at Best Buy and Circuit City.  Those two stores have good deals on externals usually :)

  2. Seagate, Maxtor.
