Please answer from personal experience please. I went on one when I was a kid which stopped off at an island then went to pontoon which was great but I can't remember the name. Any other suggestions welcome.

  1. I could'nt tell you about Cairns but....

I used to live in Port Douglas (which is soooo much nicer than Carirns anyway!!) where a lot of the reef tours leave from.

Most go out to the Low Isles and / or the reef.

Quicksilver, probably the biggest and the most famous reef tour, has a pontoon permanently moored out on the reef where you can go snorkelling, diving, and on glass bottom boat tours.

Quicksilver also do a tour out to the Low Isles on their Catamaran.

Apart from this (which can be very busy and a bit impersonnal) their are loads of small dive/snorkell boats and sailing yaughts which also do both reef and island tours.

I'd go with one of the smaller ones!! Have fun!!

  2. If you went from Cairns - you would have left the pier, gone to Green Island then out to the Outer Reef Platform - the company is Great Adventures - I always go out on them, and have a great time. http://www.greatadventures.com.au

If you want to try something different this time around, try the Scuba-Doo or Seawalker.
