Question:

What's the best activity to sign my 5 year old daughter up for?

My neices started gymnastics when they were two! They are really good now as pre-teens and their bodies look great. So healthy and strong without an ounce of fat on them. I just don't see a real future in gymnastics. Will all the money that my sister has put into it be worth it?

I'm looking for the wisest choice for my daughter long term. Something that would offer scholarship potential as well as good exercise and socialization and, of course, enjoyment for her. I haven't seen anything in particular that she has gravitated towards. She actually appears to be slightly uncoordinated. So far she's done ballet and swimming. She's enjoyed them both.

Any kind input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. i would say dancing.

  2. learn how to play music instruments

  3. Try a different kind of dance....my 7 year old is really enjoying hip hop (once a week). Piano would be good b/c your daughter could teach in the future. (my aunt said that about her 4 year old years ago...I thought she was being ABSURD! Now she's 14 and making $15 cash every 1/2 hour teaching piano in her own home!) Any kind of activity where she is socializing would be great....why don't you pick up 4-5 different brochures of various types of activities and tell her she's a "big girl" and allowed to make her own decision.

    Good Luck!!!

  4. no mater what you choose for her, don't let her quit!

as a sixteen year old girl, thats the one thing i wish i could change about my past, because high school is so much harder without something you are good at. i mean i am good at many things, but not to the extent where i could tryout and make a team. especialy at a highschool of four thousand kids.

(my personal opinion is swimming though)

  5. Why don't you just ask her what she would be interested in trying.

I don't believe in forcing a child to stick with anything. heck if they hate it or don't like then why make them stay with it. I know as an adult if I simply don't get into something I quit and try something else. Most adults are that way.

You also shouldn't be making the potential of scholarships in the future the most important thing here. What is important is that your Daughter has fun. This age is very crucial in learning thru play and fun activities.

  6. If she would like to, a Ballet Academy would be suitable for her.

  7. Dancing such as ballet would be good for her

  8. martial arts

  9. I would think a sport like soccer, would be great!

  10. Swimming is great exercise and it offers scholarships. You could also get her into cheerleading. Good exercise and scholarships as well.

  11. honestly I don't think you shoudl choose activities for your child to possibly make money off of at a later date let your child try something that seems best suited for them and not the payback....help them to understand the importance of commitment as well, but making them try out something new more than once or twice......let you daughter be your guide..

  12. I think that if she can do both for the time being then that would be great because i have done both of them and i greatly enjoy both.  As far as long term, I think which ever one she likes the best or is more convenient is what you should choose.  If you don't want to have to pay a lot of money then you can obviously choose the less expensive.  I don't know which one is less expensive where you live but i think it would probably be swimming where i live.  I also think that swimming probably gives more scholarship opportunities.  Swimming and ballet are both great opportunities to make friends.

  13. I wouldn't worry about the pay off in monetary terms. From most activities, she'll become better at socialization, coordination, and self-confidence. Not to mention she'll be healthier.

My 7 year-old has enjoyed soccer, dance, and tumbling.

  14. maybe just do swimming. It will be fun. then maybe oneday she could go to the olympics. that would be a great oppurtunity for her i think
