What's the best antivirus software that I can download

Almost any person who takes computing even half seriously will have an answer ... so here's mine.

There are two options (A & B):

A) Antivirus software comes in two main classes: 1) Free; and 2) Not free. My experience is Free isn't better, infact, generally speaking, the stuff you pay for does seem better finished and better able to eradicate malware than the free stuff. However, it isn't always possible to afford antivirus software, but often antivirus software packages allow you to trial there software, so I'd suggest you do exactly that. Go to the AV-Comparatives website (link below) and check out the software they tested.

B) Go to the other link below and download Ubuntu Linux. Adherents of this operating system claim you don't need any antivirus software. I'm not sure how true that is, but it seems a pretty widespread opinion.

I would definitely recommend Avast.

-Avast is one of the best Anti-Virus softwares there is and has one of the highest virus detection rates of any software, and is definitely better than Avg. Everyone thinks Avg is good just because its wildly popular, though it doesn't have good detection or removal rates compared to Avast. Avira, my 2nd choice is very good to, but not as good as Avast! Avast now includes anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit components. And the best part is that Avast is Free!

Avast has been rated as the "Best Anti-Virus of the Year" by PC World magazine.

Although Avasts interface looks like a music player, dont judge it by its cover, its really good.

I'd say NOD32 or Bitdefender.

Most antivirus software takes a huge toll on your computer's speed. Those are known for not doing so.
