  1. Sit them down and talk calmly. Let them know what happens(truthfuly, none of that "When a Mommy and a Daddy love each other very much...."poolah!)and then ask if they have any questions.

I also suggest you buy or get from the library First Comes Love: All About The Birds And Bees - And Alligators, Possums, And People, Too by Jennifer Davis and Claire Mackie. I used that book with my kids and it never failed.

But also tell them to keep this to them selves-the last thing you need is for them to explain it to their friends and teachers and even the check-out supermarket lady!(It happens, trust me....)

Also answer any questions they have. Good luck!

  2. answer only what they ask.

I went through the same thing except it was easier with a son.

  3. How old is little?

In 5th grade they are allready having 'the talk'.. there is enough pressure on kids today without them worrying about diseases and adult problems at 10years old.

but that seems to be the cut off point right now.. before that unless they ask I wouldnt' deal with it.

  4. Let them lead.  Answer their questions, remembering their limits in understanding.
