I want to move to PR and have a large family, I have a good size family and want to find a job before moving there? I've looked around and it seems everything there is expensive. My spouse is scared because she said there is a lot of crime everywhere, where can we go where there is a bit of americans but more culture of PR. I want to be near the ocean and mountains, well where my family can make lots of friends. Also my kids don't speak spanish so will there be a english school nearby? Thank you for the answers ahead of time!

Cheers

  1. PR just like the main land is going through a rough time, the economy is bad and jobs are scarce.  There is no one best town, there are better neighborhoods in each town.  You should definitely land a job and then make the move.  The higher your income the better quality of life you will have.  Good neighborhoods that have 24hr security and good school don't come cheap in PR.  If you were a local it would be different, you would know how to get by, if you do stay, after a while you will learn the ropes and it won't be so expensive.

  2. Puerto Rico is VERY expensive and if you don't speak Spanish I rather doubt you will find a job in a country with nearly 15 percent UNEMPLOYMENT.

You may want to try somewhere along the South Coast, it's a bit cheaper but the jobs aren't very plentiful.  It would have been a help if you would have said WHAT YOU CAN DO... for some reason, people never seem to think it's important to tell what SKILLS they have when they ask about foreign employment.

  3. Yes that's what we need, more ill informed Yanks with an elitist personality. Just stay in your part of the country unless you have Euros. And yes, you are urged to learn the Castillian tongue as others need to learn American English when in the states, eh.

  4. Everything is more expensive in Puerto Rico.  Anything that is imported will be more expensive and that is almost everything since we are an island.  In the metropolitan area  you will most likely be able to find a job even though you dont speak spanish but living there is just like if your in any other city think of downtown to get a nice place its going to be expensive so try the municipalaties outside of the metro area. Like Caguas but be prepared to face the traffic and the commute.  Now if you have experience with trades or in science you might be able to find work in the North in Barceloneta in the pharmeceutical plants they pay well for PR salaries. Id advise you to live in Arecibo or Hatillo if your working in Barceloneta there is less crime houses are cheaper since its about an hour from the metro area and definetly a lot less traffic and the beaches are nice I think theres some private schools with courses in english. But you will still have to learn some spanish.  Check out classificadosonline.com they have job postings and rentals and also real estate for sale.  Try to visit PR first and get a feel for it its a very beautiful island but we dont have many jobs most people have to open their own bussiness to live well.  Crime in PR is mostly due to drugs/money.  If you do end up moving to PR get to know your neighbors and people in your community dont worry to much about crime. People are nice and very helpfull herethey will be able to tell you if theres anything you need to look out for.  Good luck.
