  3. Ethan,

I'm not sure what you consider to be a small shark, so I'll tell you what has been working in the northeast for my friends and myself. The sharks we have been catching range from 18" to 5' in length. We do most of our fishing in the bays and backwater creeks. Squid, is a top attractant for shark. They love this bait. Cut the squid in long strips and peel the skin off to reveal the white flesh on both sides. Hey, you may even luck out and catch some flounder, weakfish or blues, but if there are sharks in the area I wouldn't count on it to happen. Another good bait is bunker. Chop it into chunks, in half... or if you're feeling lucky you can use the whole fish. Just make sure to poke a few holes into it to let the oils seep out. Put the bait on a circle hook, cast out the chunks & watch your rod. I am sure there are even more good ways. Now go out there and catch a bunch. Tight lines!

  4. Any type of meat or fish cut up.  Something that has a strong smell and is easily visible.  The best thing I can think of would be to let the meat or fish rot a little.  Leave it out for a couple days.  That will get the smell going real nice and attract them.  Also it's good to chum an area first.  So bring lots of extra and throw out small chunks all over the area.  This will bring in all nearby sharks and put them in a feeding frenzy which will make it really easy.  To make the chum, just get a plastic bucket, and mix it with water, blood, and pieces of meat or fish.  Let it sit for a day.  Then use a cup and throw out cupfuls all around the boat or shoreline.  They will show up in as little as 5 minutes or up to 20 minutes.  They also adapt and will keep coming back to that same spot at the same time each day if you continue to chum that same area.

  6. I don't normally fish for sharks, but I've caught alot this year on dead shrimp.  I've watched them chase my bait all the way to the surface.  I think most small sharks feed at the bottom in estuaries and inlets.  Try cut bait in strips.  Anything natural with high visiblity.

  7. Where are you going to be fishing. Small sharks eat the same things as larger sharks for the most part. Dogfish are the only sharks I can think of right now that are small when full grown.
