  1. Citizens Band frequencies are at the top end of the high-frequency band, or stated another way, just below the bottom end of the VHF band...The longer the CB whip, the better the performance. Select the tallest antenna possible and put it as high as possible...

A mobile CB antenna can be used as a base antenna by mounting it on the top of a metal pipe...The metal pipe serves as ground connection for the antenna, taking the place of the body of the vehicle...Remember to run a separate ground wire to a proper grounding rod for lightning protection...

If you're looking to buy a base antenna out of the box, check out Antron's A-99...It is a 18' fibergalss antenna that comes in three pieces...The Antron is a halfwave over a quater wave variable mutual transconductance tuned antenna...The entire antenna radiates...You can also add the GPK for a 9dB gain...

You can also look at the Solarcon I-MAX...It comes in three 8' sections and has tuning rings for adjusting SWR...It is a full 5/8 wave and covers far above and below the traditional CB channels...They advertise the highest gain available...

    Happy Listening...

Both are available for under $100.

  3. Well, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend on a base CB antenna.  You can install a simple vertical, up to a multielement beam antenna on a rotator and tower.  IMO, if you are really interested in two-way radio communications, you should consider getting your Amateur Radio license instead.  Otherwise, you can go Online and search for CB Base antennas.  There are many to choose from.  Good Luck

BTW, never owned a CB radio.  Have had my HAM license for over 40 years.  Trust me, its the way to go.
