Question:

What's the best camera compatible for Windows Movie Maker?

So I have a Youtube Channel and I'd like to make more creative videos on there by getting away from simply using my built in webcam..

I have two or three different camcorder types that I looked at and liked (that range from $300-600) and I was wondering if anyone knows which is best compatible for Windows Movie Maker (since that's all I have right now)...

The ones I was looking at:

-Canon DC310 DVD Camcorder

https://usm.channelonline.com/maglobal/storesite/Products/Overview/?id=M004274700

-Sony DCRDVD710

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1004749&navigationPath=n32080n47140

Help would be much appreciated!

  1. All of them will be compatible when you put them onto your computer from the camera. When there loaded onto your computer they will probably all end up avi. videos or asf. or something of that nature and Windows Movie maker supports all types of video file types.

  2. Not sure but my Sony makes Movie Maker go crazy on my computer.

  3. Both DVD and hard drive based camcorders are poor choices if you're going to use Windows Movie Maker - their videos are in MPEG-2 format, which has only limited support in WMM.  I'm surprised to see the DCR-SR42 being recommended - everything else I've seen says it doesn't work!  Even if you get an editor that can work with MPEG-2 (and that's most of the commercial ones) it's a poor choice for editing because of the way it's compressed.  It takes a lot more computer resources to edit and the quality isn't as good.

MiniDV is the best choice if you're going to stick with WMM, but it's so much cheaper than the others that you could get a decent camcorder and editor with your budget.  Canon, Sony and JVC all make good camcorders.  I like Sony's Vegas Movie Studio for editing.

  4. NO NO NO!!!!

Dvd's are terrible at importing into movie maker.

Take any DVD that you have any try figuring out how to import it into WMM. It DOESNT WORK!!!!

You need a camera like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-SR42-Hand...

It uses a Hard Drive in the camera and the files are directly compatible with Windows Movie Maker

I have the same camera and it works great

    the quality is AMAZING!!!!

And, it is in the right format for windows movie maker!!!

    I hope I could help!!!
