Question:

What's the best cell phone to rent for use in Mexico City, Cuernavaca & Acapulco?

Two couples traveling together in these 3 cities -- a cell phone for each couple sure would come in handy. We don't want the phones for calling outside of Mexico. Also, we would pick up the cell phones in Mexico City but our departure city will be Acapulco.

  1. Telcel, the Movistar signal just appears sometimes during the day and sometimes you just can't use it for no reason, I use Telcel and I've never had a complaint.

  2. well there are two main companys, I use "Movistar"

but Telcel is very good too!

both are kind the same thing.....

Movistar is a little cheaper for other movistar cell phones and local calling.....

good luck! and enjoy your trip!

  3. My sister lives in Australia and comes to Mexico every summer, she uses her same Australian phone and just buys the chip in the back of it, it makes it local and she can just buy pre-paid cards with out getting a new phone.

She got the idea from an American friend so it should be the same for US phones

  4. Telcel has English an to my knowledge they were and still are the only for all your inquires and questions

I have never seen anywhere that you can rent one.

What you are planning is going to COST you.

If you are looking at "Pay as you go" your phones will be restricted to the local area code but you can call out.

They sell phone cards that do not work everywhere but if you are  calling Canada or the US its 50 cents a minute.

Mr Slim did not become the world richest man by being kind to phone users

  5. The above mention celular company has a nationwide coverage so that you can talk with your friends in any part of the Mexican Republic.

  6. The best celular company is Movilstar!!

  7. We did the same thing (rented 2 Mexico cell phones for two couples to stay in touch with each other and with home in the US). We rented from Mexitel Cellular and were very pleased. They send you the phone in the US so you have it when you get there and it only costs $1 per call (not per minute) to call the US. You will want to check with them to see if they can get you phones which will work for these cities - their phones work everywhere in Mexico, but you need a Mexitel phone from Mexico City to get the special calling rate.
