I've been meaning to start for a while, but I just don't know what camera to buy. I don't have tons of money to spend, but I'm open to all options. Suggestions?

  1. I agree with the person above. However, if you're looking for something more pocketable and prefer not to carry all the bulk or cash out for extra lenses, I would recommend the Canon G9 compact.

It has one of the best image quality of all small cameras and achieves a "highly recommended" rating from dpreview. It features 12 megapixels and a highly usable 6x optical zoom. It has all the manual controls you would expect on a beginner dslr, if you're serious about taking better pictures.

Another camera to consider is the upcoming panasonic lx3. Noise is said to be considerably improved in the latest model- just wait and see how it compared to the G9.

  2. It depends on how serious you are.  Looking for something small to fit in your pocket or are you looking for something a bit bigger and more "professional" looking?

    canon rebel xt

    nikon d40

those two are pretty popular...not too expensive...good starters
