Already discovered that I can't use Windows Movie Maker with the format that the video is captured with on the Sony Handycam, unless I go thru a very lengthy and bulky conversion procedure that I don't have time for. Would like to know if anyone else owns a Sony Handycam camcorder (particularly a DCR-SR45 model) and what digital video editing program they use to create movies with audio, transitions, effects, etc.

  1. Either Premiere or Vagas both about the best you can get, for the money. but they both take some work to get good results, if you want ok stuff then try some of the others. You should have a firewire connection, you can capture the video inside the progs.

    good luck

  2. Vegas is a great editor, but it's a prosumer level product - you'd be better off with Vegas Movie Studio.  Projects created with VMS can be opened with Vegas if you want to upgrade, and the upgrade cost is just the price difference between the two.

  3. I would reccomend Sony Vegas 7.0, both made by Sony.

It's a great program with amazing graphics and effects that are fairly easy to use.

It's complicated, but read the manual for further information.
