The best ear plugs would be ones that are custom-molded to the shape of your ear.

Sensaphonics makes great products. You can get a mold taken from a local audiologist or at their office in Chicago.

Depending on what you are looking for, you can get plugs that have different capsules you can put in for different amounts of noise reduction. These are good for musicians, because they can reduce the level of sound but still hear the music.

Plus they would be more comfortable.

The downside? You will spend more than if you bought some generic foam plug.
