I live in a dorm room and the only pets that our school allows are fish in a tank no larger than 5 gallons. What would be the best fish for that size tank?

  1. I remember taking an empty 5 gallon tank to my college dorms with me. As soon as I was settled in, I went to Petsmart and bought one of those poor lifeless Betta fish from one of their plastic cups.  I let the Betta have the whole tank to himself. :) I made sure the interior of the tank was completely decked out. I had a lively & happy little fish. :)

  2. I think the #1 choice would have to be a betta. You can get some very beautiful ones! They are hardy and would love a 5g. They have big personalities andare fairly easy to care for. Believe it or not they can be great company!

If you want more than one fish, how about 4-6 White Cloud Mountain Minnows? These fish don't mind cooler temperatures. They are very hardy and under the right light they look absolutely stunning. A beautiful little fish.

3 or 4 male Fancy Guppies can make a beautiful display. They are social and I find them quite entertaining to watch. Don't mix males with females though, or else you will get many unwanted fry (baby guppies).

    Good luck :)

  3. a BETTA they are REALLY easy to take care of and are smart, pretty, and hardy :)

  4. How about a Beta fish? They are beautiful, easy to take care of and won't grow as much as a Goldfish.

  5. You could put one male betta (or a female betta) in the tank.

Or you could do a trio of killifish. ^.^
