What's the best for all-around use deep v or tri hull?

never had a boat before, but think i'm going to get a used boat soon. i'd like it for fishing, cruising around, maybe pulling a tube with kids on it, i doubt skiers or wakeboarders would get pulled much.... so i'm thinking 50-70hp outboard is plenty.

what kind of boat makes a better choice? deep v or a tri-hull, will only ever go into smaller lakes and dams, the bigger lake i like to fish at has both deep water in spots and sand bars in others. advice is appreciated, thanks

  1. this is a preference thing...

either you love trihulls or you hate them...

Personally I think they are great.

They skim quite nicely at speed, reducing drag in the water.

They are quite stable, at speed or adrift.

    They are nice looking...

for the applications you mentioned, a trihull would work great...(I had a MFG trihull for a few years)

  2. Get a name brand as cheap isn't always good> Center console> Unless you want a cabin> & a Head <toilet>for the girls> V will give you a nicer ride tri hull are bow riders not much of a fishing boat but a good family boat> Not much cool to them> Myself CC is the best bang for your buck>

  3. MY R1 has 172 HORSEPOWER, PUT THAT ENGINE ON A TRI HULL!!!

  4. I have a 25' pontoon and have never regretted buying it except when I want to go over 30mph.  It has a Honda90 four stroke which I highly recommend.

I've had three deep Vs and enjoyed them but beaching and in n out access was not nearly as easy as a pontoon.

The tri toon 25' will hold 16 people to give you an idea of room where as a 25' or smaller deep V might comfortable hold ½ that many.

In choppy water (not huge swells) the pontoon is as stable as land, a deep V knocks you around

Wind is the pontoons enemy but shallow water and sand bars are no bother.

  5. "semi deep V" center console.  It would work perfect for what you want to do.  We have thousands here on the Bay doing just what you described.  No problems.  A lot of room to move around with water equipment i.e. tubes, etc...  Then you can fish.

Good Luck, Have fun with you search.

  6. trihulls are very stable boats, but in any kind of chop it will beat you to death.

unless you only run in dead calm water, get the deep-V, trust me.

    semi-V, even better.
