Question:

What's the best investment firm to got with for a new investor?

I'm a new investor, I've had CD's for a long time, but right now they are only getting barely over 2% interest. I want to invest about $3-5K, into something I can earn a higher return on. Hopefully something like 7% or more, while still being pretty safe.

I'm wondering what is the best firm to go with for someone like me who knows almost nothing about stocks, or choosing them. One of the most important aspects is I want one that has the lowest cost of fees. I don't want my money eaten up in fees every time I trade. But I still need one that is set up in an easy way to help me make educated decisions. Where should I look?

Thanks.

  1. Start with mutual funds.  T. Rowe Price and Vanguard are excellent.  Don't try to become a "stock trader."  People who do this usually wind up enriching only their brokerage.

  2. join the 1ka10 virtual stock market trading game on real market feeds and check your trading skills and u can learn lot of for indian stock market as well.

    visit http://www.1ka10.com

  3. You will probably get a bunch of answers here.  Everyone has their own opinion... I'll just give you an objective view and you can choose.

www.fidelity.com- tons of funds, fair transaction fees.

    www.scottrade.com-cheap trades, decent enough

    www.etrade.com- another cheap alternative

    www.schwab.com-the original low-cost brokerage alternative

    Good luck!
