  1. No cheap rents and vrey few bartender jobs during our economic slowdown.  As someone else noted, we have had a drop in flights from the mainland and we are going to have more in September, resulting in a huge loss of tourists.  It would be difficult to get a job at a "local" bar as they hire mostly locals.  I would wait two years until the economy improves if you just want a "Hawaii experience."

  2. Be definition, if there are lots of jobs, rent will not be cheap.

If rent is cheap, then wages will be cheap too.

Most likely you will need to start in a restaurant, then wait for some one to leave and try to get a bar job at the same place.

  3. There are lots of bars on any of the islands, but whether there are lots of bar jobs is uncertain.  We are experiencing an economic downturn with a 14% drop in tourists.  So we are experiencing layoffs in many places.  And cheap rent?  You've gotta be kidding!
