I asked this question before but it was removed for some reason, and I don't remember the answer I got. I need to buy the fish this weekend for the small tank in my classroom...

I've had gold fish in there and they all died. I had a betta that lasted longer than the gold fish, but it only lasted probably 4 months or so.

  1. guppies. and they have live births!

  2. Check the wording of your question. Aquariums don't die. lol

The quality of the water is important as well. Its probably best to do a little research before getting more fish.

Generally the bigger the aquarium, the better chance the fish has because the more water you have, the more stable the environment for the fish.

Small tank = small fish and small numbers.

Like I said though, do some reading first.

  3. BETTAs

  4. well i think that betta fishes are the best to take care of that won't die in a small aquarium. i have 2 betta fishes in a small aqaurium and they are in great shape. bettas live long lives if you take care of it in quiet places. well if you put the betta fish in the classroom, it might be too loud and it won't be good for your betta fish. no offense though. sorry. it's just that you should put betta fishes in low traffic and quiet place. betta fish don't really need a filter unless you just want it to be clean. i don't have any of the filter or heater and it's in great shape.

  5. danios,tetras,rasbarios,guppies,platies,...

  6. try kepping 3-4 male guppies since they are small and if you get females it could show everyone about fish genetics however your gonna have alot of babies well good luck

  7. Depends on the size of the tank. 2+ gallons, then a Betta would do fine (with a filter and heater). 10+ gallons, a school of small Tetras and/or Rasboras would do fine. But seriously, we need to know the size of the tank and if it has a filter and heater.

    E-mail me for any questions!

EDIT: Without a heater, you're limited to coldwater fish...which isn't many considering most of them grow to a foot or longer.

But White Cloud Mountain Minnows and Hillstream Loaches are small fish that are coldwater fish as well. WCMM's prefer to be in schools, but I don't think you can fit a school of 5+ in a 2.5 gallon tank. 1 or 2 (at the most) Hillstream Loaches would be fine though. Feed them sinking shrimp pellets and sinking algae wafers and other sinking food.

  8. betta would be best, but bettas arent as pretty as guppys and guppys are smaller so you can get a couple of them

  9. white cloud mountain minnows
