I've never had one, so I'm trying to figure out what's the best type for me? I'm in pretty good health, I just carry a lot of stress and ocassionally have a lower back ache.

  1. What you're looking for is called a Swedish massage. That is the most basic you can get and every massage therapist knows how to give one. That is the most common massage I give. Then when you become familiar with that you can try new types. Find a massage therapist you like and see what their specialty is. When I am finished I will specialize in Infant massage, shiatsu, and Thai massage. But I will still be giving good old Swedish. Good luck!

  2. If you have never had a massage you do not want to start with a deep tissue / shiatsu massage.  It is too much for the complaints that you have and for being a first timer.  Talk to the massuse and explain what your concerns are.  Tel them where it hurts and the type of pain and they will be able to recommend the right massage for you.  They do have massages just for stress relief and relaxation.  Good luck!

  3. There are more than 250 varieties of massage and bodywork.  Try this link:  http://massagetherapy.com/glossary/index...

When you search for your first therapist, I recommend this same site.  You just punch in your zip code and the type of massage you want and someone *qualified* will be found in your area.

I have two sites, one that is free through the massage association and the other I paid for.  Both are good and informative.

P.S.  You just might become a massage junkie!!! lol

  4. deep tissue shiatsu

  5. I always get a one-hour full body massage with hot stones.  They warm the stones in a crock pot (basically) and rub them on your back (in addition to the regular massage).  They also massage your arms and legs and feet.  After that I get a sinus massage with peppermint oil.  They basically just rub peppermint oil on your head and massage your forehead and temples.  The oil opens up your sinuses.  It really helps, and in my area costs about $70 for all of this.  Hope this helps!
