Not to pick a fight, lets say you were just minding your own business and some drunk jerk just attacked you? (things like broken beer bottles and ash tray's could be involved). And what do most bouncers train in? Whats the best martial art training for a bouncer? Just out of curiosity.

  1. Hehehehe ..... talk to your local police department since you're a bouncer man.  They should be able to hook you up with a decent school for sel-defense which is dedicated to handling just the kind of occupational hazards you have there.  Maybe even break ye ole' yellow pages out and call around and explain your situation to the schools ( dojo's ) you find in the book.

My own personal recommendation is that you go to a qualified "Jujitsu Instructor" and let him know your situation.  Stick to any jujitsu school that has the word "Ryu" in its name and you'll be fine. These jujitsu arts are the exact same thing that a lot of law enforcement personnel are invovled in so that they can gain control over an "enibreated" and violently arrest resisting type.  It should d**n well work for a bounce that's for sure.

    Good luck

    Zenlife's answer has my vote!!

  2. This is rare if you are "minding your own business"

  3. Bar fights are nasty, 90% of what you might have learned goes out the window the second it starts. Generally just be nasty back.

Having worked as a bouncer i find that anything that teaches leverage is great, if you have somebody half choked out they wont be going anywhere fast. I've seen a lad i worked with guillotine and jump guard on some lad that hit him, once the guy stopped moving about he picked him up and dragged him out, the guy was walking in a state of semi consciousness. So jiujitsu and the likes.

Also note, bouncers are not aloud to hit you, but most bouncers know where the camera blind spots are, and the cops often turn a blind eye.

For a humerous take check out bas rutten on youtube, the man is not well.

And before anybody qoutes me, 76% of statistics are made up on the spot

  4. I know a guy that is a Kenpo sensei and hes amazing, Ive seen him in action..and its truly breath-taking.....Kenpo is an agressive and straight forward martial art using mostly your hands...it actually seems similar to street fighting what with all the pressure point strikes, but is still very much a martial art with all the defensive moves and/or positions that you can imagine.....so without a doubt i would say Kenpo karate.....such a vicious form of martial art..

  5. Probably just good weight training, Cardio and psychology.  I mean a little Kickboxing wouldn't hurt.  But if you're a good bouncer you talk people down out of a situation and basically escort someone to the door.  No physicality needed.

this is the most realistic bar fight scene i've ever seen. what could prepare you for that? ...not much of anything.

sometimes you are just going to lose if the other person gets the upper hand before you do.

if you want usable self defense now....study something like krav maga, or jeet kune do.

traditional arts are good, but take a long time to learn and get good at. and sometimes aren't so realistic.

mma and bjj are sometimes too used to the rules and that is often their downfall.

ive always felt that the best way to get good at something is to practice THAT. ..kata will not make you a good fighter. it can teach you alot. but if you really want to be able to use it...you have to put yourself in that situation. recreate it in the dojo.

i highly recommend Paul Vunak's JKD videos. especially his "headbutts, knees, and elbows" stuff.

he's been known to actually rent bars to teach in.

  7. study jujitsu, then practice sparring with the concepts of jujitsu, ie use joint locks and take balance, then try not to get hurt.

  8. monkey kungfu you can go ape ,,it

  9. mma or krav

by the way bouncers cant do anything but shove cause they can still get arrested for 2 much force

  10. I know a lot of bouncers, and they don't train in anything. Bouncers don't normally fight, they just use brute strength to get the job done. If you want to train in something to get ready for a bar fight, check out bare knuckle boxing.

  11. bouncers arent normally hired for their training just for being big most times.  the small bouncers are usually the trained ones, dont p**s them off.

  12. the best martial art to learn in a bar fight when ppl are drunk or tipsy is Drunken Fist...can learn from jackie chan movies or jet li last hero of china....difficult to find anyone teaching drunken fist kung fu...it is also called drunken disciples of god

  13. bars are usually filled with *******, so try to avoid that scene. but if you do find your self in that position, make sure its self-defense. Nobody wants to go to jail. fighting techniques r over-rated. training helps of course, but when push comes to shove, its mostly instinct. Just be make sure that you have knock-out power. Then its just a matter of who gets that lucky punch first. The jaw is the best place to aim, but the nose will bring tears to their eyes. Just try to avoid fighting.

  14. Gun and knife

  15. It's a style called Stayoutofbar-do

Why would anyone want to surround themselves with a bunch of drunken idiots?

  16. I know you waned a style, but I think this guy, BAS "EL GUAPO" RUTTEN, will teach you all you want to know about bar fighting.

  17. Dude, just get a rounded vocabulary on fighting. Like mma. Get a perspective on all fighting styles...Maybe go to www.fight-site.com, It has alright articles.

  18. It looks like you have two questions:

1.)  To prepare for a bar fight, Krav Maga focuses on multiple attackers, attackers with weapons, and quick finishes.  Most other self defense styles do too, so find a dojo you like and when you get there, work hard.

2.)  To prepare to be a bouncer, Sumo or Greco (Roman) would probably be best because they focus so much on relocating an opponents position (as in 86 out the door or 86 on the floor).  They also have very strong stand up grappling techniques.

  19. I'd have to go with Krav Maga

  20. Chinese Martial Arts. Go Wu Dang clan or Shaolin Temple in china.

Their Martial Arts are the best in the world. They can do amazing feats. You have do actually see it to believed. But it takes many years of hard training to achieve that. On average they train at least 8 hours a day in exercise, methods and forms. But with that you can fight at least 5 guys at anytime without any problem.

  21. maui thai boxing.  It uses the hardest parts of the body for maximum damage.  elbows, fists, shins and knees.  a good stiff punch to the throat will almost always work.

  22. From my experience most bouncers train in weight lifting, they are supposed to suppress and eject without causing a law suit, that takes strength and man power, not dealy combat techniques.

Martial Arts are not for bar fights, be clear about that.

The best art for the situation you decscribed would be the one that you train in every day for years upon years, the one you know so well that the situation does matter because you can easily adapt your training to it because you know it so well it has become like breathing

  23. Japanese Jiu-jitsu.

    Best wishes :)***
